The Miss Smithyz 2016 Beauty
Pageant funfair drums may have stopped, but the Queen, Vivian Peterson is just
setting up shop for what promise to be an exciting Ambassadorship. Commune
Magazine, CM cornered the first ever Miss Smithyz Club and lounge Beauty Queen
and Ambassador, in this chat with Ola Pat, Assistant Editor, she revealed why
she her plan and strategy.
On February 14, Vivian Peterson emerged
the winner of Miss Smithyz 2016 Beauty Pageant, as her name was called as the
winner it was obvious she was not expecting it. She shed tears of joy while she
was dressed up in her new office garb. CM asked her how she felt, “I was
surprised, my mind was set on being the first or second runner up. And when my
name was not among those called for the position, I just zero my mind and
resigned to fate.”
Although, she insisted that with
the beauty crown she still feels like her old self with no significant change
has taken place in her life. She informed this magazine that she is still
thinking on how best to carry out her new role to the benefit of her principal
and community. She, however agreed that she had so much on her plate, the most
important being her studies. In fact, she shared her priority formula with us.
“I can cope with all. If I am given 100 percent, I will give 50 percent to my
studies and share the remaining 50 percent with other activities.”
Vivian, a 300 level economics
student of University of Lagos, Unilag is the second child in a family of 7
including her parents. She is from Edo state. Her journey into the beauty
pageant began when her cousin urged her to participate and had to work hard to
persuade her. After expressing her desire to participate in the beauty pageant
by picking up a form, she informed her parent, who she said was very supportive
of her aspiration.
As she hopes to graduate next
year, 2017, CM asked her about her ambition. “There is no job, so I am going to
try my luck with entrepreneurship.” Initially, she put in for petroleum
engineering, but because she did not do further mathematics in her secondary
education. She was shocked to discover that without further mathematics she
cannot study any engineering course in Unilag. So, she was advised to teleport
to economics department.
With this new found status comes
new respect from course mates and colleagues in school. She told CM that she
would prefer to be treated like everybody else. In her case, she was shocked,
as she sees everything as normal but she was receiving preferential treatment
as the news of her enthronement spread. “People now reserve seat for me in
class and some look for excuse to talk to me.”
Doing a leisure time, she said
she like to relax with a good book or cool music. She was once an aspiring
footballer in her 100 level until she twisted an ankle. That single incident
made her give up on football. She attended Bayget International School, Oko-Oba
in Agege and Lagos State Model College. Her first shot at JAMB landed her in a
polytechnic in Ibadan, but she forfeited the admission. She described herself as a very simple person that
makes friends easily and don't get angry easily.
