Joseph Harrison Estate, Yaba has brief up security around
the estate perimeter after receiving visitation letter from armed robbers, who
promised to visit this week. The letter, which urged the residents to get ready
as the robbers will visit soon to take their Christmas gift was found on a
resident’s vehicle on Wednesday morning (7th of December.)
According to News agency of Nigeria, NAN the robbers
promised to visit during the week to collect their dues. “We are coming this
week to collect our dues and to visit you tenets and landlord… If you like go
and bring police or soldiers, we are coming to perform our duties. ” The said letter
also solicits for the residents’ cooperation with a death threat to whoever
failed to heed the call.
The Community Development Association, CDA chairman, Mr.
Bolanle Akinyemi confirmed the letter and said the matter has been reported to
the police at the Sabo police station. According to him, a similar letter was
received in 2013 before a company in the estate was robbed.
Informing targeted victims of robbery became a common trend
during the Abacha regime when all security outfits were deliberately starve of
fund in order to prevent them causing a change in government. It became so
rampant that every blessed week; streets receive letters from armed robbers
without any help from the security forces. That led to self-help in which
streets decided to protect themselves by building street gates, which we still lived
