Private Students to write GCE twice in a year

The West African Examination Council, WAEC have concluded plan to offer private students opportunity to write the General Certificate Examination, GCE either in the January/February diet or August/September diet starting from 2017. According to the Chief Registrar, Dr. Iyi Uwadiae, the council will now conduct GCE examination twice in a year. This was made known at the council meeting held in Accra, Ghana on December 14, 2016.

He said the measure was taken by the council to make sure private students have the opportunity to write the examination whenever they are ready while the may/June WASSCE for school candidates will still be done once in a year. The Chief Registrar also informed the meeting that the council is ready to conduct the examination in other African countries.

“We are open to any country in African, which desire to have us set examination for students, who are being taught English and uses Nigeria curriculum.” He went further “As long as these countries have all requisites needed doe the conduct of our examination on ground, we will be there to carry out our mandate.” He said, the council is currently offering services to some French speaking countries such as Togo, Republic of Benin and Cote d’Ivoire, all in the West African sub region.
