Sporting activities suspended
in school complex
... Sand dredging suspended
Following the directive from
the governor, Akinwunmi Abode last week that all government premises should
cease from being use for social events and as an event center henceforth. Most
important schools in the community have closed their gate against social
events. The authorities in charge of one of the biggest school complex in
Bariga, the CMS grammar school complex has halted the sporting activities in
the premise.
The action CM learnt was in
compliance with the governor's directive. In circular No. 4 dated January 11th,
2016 sighted by CM. The third paragraph concluded that "The use of
government properties /space or buildings within government complexes /
establishments for any activity other than official government activities is
suspended forthwith."
One the coaches affected by
the decision, Prince Kazeem Adekunle aka Always, head coach at Always Boxing
Gym called on the Governor to reconsider the decision to ban all activities in
government school premises. “We appeal to the governor to reconsider his decision
to ban sporting activities in government school premises. This ban will kill grassroots’
sport in Lagos state.”
Again, the Lagos State government
has order a stop to sand dredging at Ebute Ilaje, Bariga. The order, CM learnt may
have been due partly to the constant armed rivalry between Folarin boys and
Ilaje boys over, who collect the dues. The government also required the dredgers
to renew their dredging license.
